The first reason that it would
be wrong to consider glaciers in isolation from other parts of the environment
is that glaciers are part of a complex, interconnected, global system.
For example: the existence of glaciers depends on global climate, and climate itself is affected by the existence of glaciers. Glaciers also have a strong effect on global sea level, especially when climate changes and glaciers either grow or melt. So if you want to understand climate, or to learn how to deal with future sea-level change, you need to know about glaciers! |
